Thomas Althaus first contacted me asking if I would add his company, Canned Goods to my Where to Shop page. Never having heard of them, I decided to check them out. I thought to myself, Canned Goods? Is this some kind of dispensary for canned foods? To my surprise, Thomas created an incredible jewelry line made entirely out of upcycled tin cans! What an incredible concept. To take it another step further, for every piece of jewelry purchased, one canned food item is donated to a reputable charity.
Now, I must admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard everything was made from tin cans. I thought how uncomfortable it might be to wear a bracelet with sharp edges, which might ultimately cut me! However, Thomas was so kind to send me two bracelets and a pair of earrings to try them out for myself. Of course, the second I put everything on I fell in love and not a sharp edge in sight! Actually, quite contrary to my skepticism, the bracelets are extremely comfortable. Also, for those with sensitive ears, the earring hooks are made of 100% solid sterling silver.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you know the first night I received my Canned Goods package, I wore these bracelets to an event and I received TONS of compliments on them! Everyone was shocked to know my jewelry was made from tin cans. They couldn't believe the inventiveness and craftsmanship of Canned Goods. Do yourself a favor, and pick up some of these incredible pieces. Not only will you look great, but you'll be doing something philanthropic as well.
